The Sweet Prospects of Colombian Cocoa

Last November, Bogota’s Choco Show attracted buyers from Europe and Asia, attracted by the Colombian cocoa industry’s stellar reputation. The show’s most popular products included pasta, liquor, and cocoa butter as well as confections like chocolate bars and bonbons. According to a study conducted by the International Study for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), cocoa cultivation in Colombia is key to restoring land depleted by armed conflict and preventing the deforestation of primary forests. Statistics indicate that Colombian cocoa exports grew by 21.9% between 2018 and 2019.
