November Panorama with Gabriel Barletta

CEO of Panorama de las Américas
Each edition of Panorama of the Americas is, above all, an invitation to view our continent from new perspectives: from the depths of its natural beauty to the vibrancy of its cities and the excitement of its journeys. This time, the destinations we explore speak of discovery, connection, and wonder.
To celebrate Panama’s National Month, Panorama opens its pages with a tribute to its identity and creativity under the title “Panama in a Suitcase: Souvenirs That Speak of the Isthmus.” Because when time is short, memories help extend the journey.
In the same celebratory spirit, our new foodie columnist, Ms. D, invites us to explore the diverse culinary landscapes of the isthmus: cuisines born from the encounter of worlds and the blending of shared memories. In every dish, the echoes of grandparents who once left distant lands behind resonate, but whose descendants took root here, transforming ingredients, mixing accents, and making Panama a territory where the flavors of the world found a home.
In “A Day in Barro Colorado: The Rainforest as Teacher”, we venture into an island that seems suspended in time. Isolated by the waters of the Panama Canal, Barro Colorado is much more than a biodiversity refuge: it is a living laboratory where, for more than a century, the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute has been deciphering the secrets of the tropical forest.
From the calm of the forest we move to the hustle and bustle of the city in “Rio in Carioca style”, a version far from the clichés where the bars of Copacabana, the butecos full of flavor and samba, the chats between friends and the bohemian corners are what reveal the true Carioca soul.
And because every good adventure deserves its horizon, we also celebrate the arrival of the cruise season in Latin America, with Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas setting sail from Colón, Panama. A voyage designed for the Latin American traveler, which does not require a US visa.
Nature, culture and sea: three ways of traveling that remind us that America always has something more to offer, if we know how to look with curiosity and let ourselves be carried away by its rhythm.
