The pandemic is even influencing fashion, or at least it looks that way from the behavior of wholesale buyers at the latest (online) Colombiatex, one of Latin America’s most important fabric trade fairs. Data from fair organizer Inexmoda lists loungewear, sleepwear, and sports clothing among the most popular categories. Water-repellent, UV-protective, and techno-fabrics are now more in demand than other types of fabric. This marks an enormous change in consumption patterns and lifestyles, which likely reflects the influence of COVID-19.

Ecuadorian Toquilla Straw Hat Conquers New Markets

Celebrated around the world as a classic symbol of elegance and good taste, the Ecuadorian toquilla straw hat is exploring new markets after COVID-19 reduced its usual markets. The hat is well positioned in North America, Western Europe, and the Far East, but marketers are now seeking buyers in Eastern Europe and Russia. Ecuador estimates that some 2,500 workshops produce the hat; forty of those are established exporters.
